Kundapur, December 25: Kota cops have seized nearly 5 kg of sandalwood pieces and more than 50 kg of beef near Kota Mahalingeshwara Temple which were illegally transported in a Maruti Omni van on December 25th, Thursday.
It is gathered that the beef was being transported from Kadlur to Udupi. The activist of a right wing organisation had approached the Omni on learning that some trade was going on. A person named Abdul had arrived there by a two wheeler reportedly to purchase beef. The message was conveyed to the cops.
It is said, the two accused fled from the Omni vehicle when the cops arrived at the spot. On inspection, the cops have traced more than 50kgs of beef in the Omni vehicle. During inspection the cops have found over 5kgs of Sandal wood blocks which were placed below the beef.
The Kota police are on a lookout for the duo accused who have escaped.
A case stands registered at Kota police station and the cops have seized Omni vehicle, beef, Sandal wood blocks along with the scooty and its owner Abdul who had come to buy beef was arrested.
