Beltangady, December 12: A teenage boy named Kiran died suddenly reportedly due to medical negligence at Fr L M Pinto Health Centre, Badyar on Thursday night, December 11th.
Kiran (15), son of Srinivas Poojary and late Leelavati, residents of Ujire, was admitted to the hospital on Saturday December 6th for appendicitis. He underwent surgery, but on Thursday morning his condition deteriorated suddenly.
The doctors at Badyar hospital asked the family to shift him to a hospital in Mangaluru, but since his condition had worsened, he could not be saved.
Family sources said that as per the doctors who examined him in the hospital in Mangaluru, Kiran had been given a medicine that had strong reaction on him. As a result, his nervous system was affected, it is learnt.
About 6 months ago, his mother Leelavati too had been admitted to the same Badyar hospital and she too expired suddenly in the hospital, sources said.
Pertaining to the issue, a case stands registered in Beltangady police station.
As the news spread, a huge crowd assembled and protested in front of the hospital led by Mahesh Shetty Thimarody, leader of Praja Prabhutva Vedike. They demanded for the resignation and arrest of the doctor who was responsible for Kiran’s death.
Protestors complained that various incidents of medical negligence had taken place in the Badyar hospital, but the local administration has failed to initiate any action.
Beltangady MLA Vasanth Bangera, speaking to the media said, that he would pass an order to probe into the case by Saturday December 13th.
He said, appropriate actions would be taken against the erring doctors.
