Mangaluru, December 03: The “World Disabled Day” was observed at Shanthi Nilaya here on Wednesday, December 3rd under the joint organisation of women and child welfare department, Directorate of Empowerment of Differently Abled and Senior Citizens, Karnataka, District administration, and Lions Club Gandhinagar Mangaluru.
The program was inaugurated by the Dakshina Kannada in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai. Speaking at the gathering, Minister Rai said, the government had introduced various schemes for the differently abled and urged them to make the best use of it.
Mahabala Maarla, Mayor of Mangalore City Corporation expressed that the government’s projects to help the differently abled citizens have not reached the deserving beneficiaries.
MLA JR Lobo also spoke on this occasion.
Wheel chairs and hearing aids were distributed to the needy.
Pupils from various special schools were felicitated for their achievement in extra-curricular activities at the state, National and international levels.
Children had been on a procession too.
MLA JR Lobo, Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim, Mayor Mahabala Maarla were present along with other dignitaries on the dais.
