Telangana State man, Vidyasagar Rao is the new Governor of Maharashtra

Hyderabad: Telangana BJP veteran and former Union minister of state Chennamaneni Vidyasagar Rao was appointed as Governor of Maharashtra on Tuesday by President Pranab Mukherjee.

Popularly known as “Sagar Ji”, the 72-year-old leader spent the whole day receiving greetings from friends, relatives and leaders of various parties. Jubilant BJP leaders on Tuesday evening felicitated Mr Rao at the party headquarters.

Mr Rao said that as Governor he would go by the rules, the Constitution and the law while performing his duties. Mr Rao is the third “Telugu bidda” to be Governor of Maharashtra after Kasu Brahmananda Reddy and Kona Prabhakar Rao.

Mr Vidyasagar Rao was a three-time MLA in the undivided AP Assembly from Metpalli of Karimnagar district. He was twice elected MP from Karimnagar, in 1998 and 1999 and was Union minister of state for home and commerce in the Vajpayee Cabinet during 1999-2004,
