twiRanchi: They are identical twins and, interestingly, even their mark sheets look almost the same. Ranchi twins Aporupa and Anorupa Chattopadhyay  scored almost identical marks in the ICSE results announced on Monday: Anorupa, the older of the two, got 98% marks while Aporupa was close with 97.8% in their class 10 exams.

The Loreto Convent students were neck and neck in every subject with a perfect 100 in computer studies, a score of 95 in English, 99 in science, 98 in mathematics and 97 in history and geography. The only exception was Hindi in which Anorupa got 98 and Aporupa got 97.

Daughters of Shailesh Chattopadhyay, a professor of zoology at Birsa Agriculture University, the twins have always studied together for their exams. The ICSE exams in March this year were no different. “We usually study together. It helps us understand our subjects better,” said Anorupa.

In their class 9 exams, Aporupa trumped her elder sister, and this healthy competitiveness is likely to remain in future, say the sisters who aspire to become doctors and serve society.

“They have always played and studied together. I hope they also crack the same medical college and pursue MBBS together,” said their mother, Moushumi Chattopadhyay.

The duo never took tuitions for their exams and studied only with assistance from each other, said their father Prof. Chattopadhyay.

The two sisters have taken admission in Jawahar Vidya Mandir Shayamli, and are likely to study in the same class with the same subjects, he said. “I never pressurised them to study any particular subject. They have mutually decided to become doctors,” he said.

Although he is happy with the bonding they share with each other, he wants them to be self-reliant. “It is not possible for them to be together all the time in future, so, they shouldn’t be dependent on each other,” he said.
