Hyderabad: A four-month-old girl was allegedly sold by her drunkard father to a woman for Rs. 19,000 in Khamman district of Telangana, police said today.
The incident occurred in Palvancha town on Sunday when the accused, identified as Chintalacheruvu Raju, allegedly sold the baby girl to one D Swaroopa, said Sub-Inspector Shanmukha Chary.
Police rescued the girl from the woman today and arrested Swaroopa and Raju after his wife Bhavani lodged a complaint with them yesterday.
“Raju took Rs. 10,000 as advance from the buyer while the balance was to be given after a week,” Chary said, adding that Raju is a habitual drunkard and of late facing some financial problems.
Palvancha Town Police lodged a case under Section 317 (exposure and abandonment of child under twelve years, by parent or person having care of it) of IPC besides other sections.
The duo were remanded in judicial custody.
