K.S. Ravikumar’s highly anticipated directorial venture Lingaa starring Rajinikanth, Sonakshi Sinha and Anushka Shetty in the lead finally hit the theatres yesterday. The expectations were sky high from the film as the Thalaivar was returning to the big screen after four long years. And it seems Lingaa has lived-up to all the hype and expectations. We say so because the Rajinikanth starrer has garnered phenomenal response overseas. “#Lingaa thalaivar makes into 7th highest all time Tamil grosser of USA with just 1 day gross. Will enter top 5 today,” tweeted ATMUS Entertainment, distributors of Tamil films in US.
ATMUS Entertainment also wrote on the popular social networking site, “#Lingaa USA premiere gross at $404,566 from 118 screens. Ended up #6 overall in USA for Thursday.”
At this pace, we are pretty sure Lingaa will rake in big moolah at the worldwide box office by the end of opening weekend. Though domestic official figures are not out as yet, early trend suggests that the film has collected Rs 19 crore approximately on day 1 in Tamil Nadu. Now those numbers are mighty impressive, hai na?
