London: India continued their post-Lord’s sorry story with the bat as they lost two wickets beforte lunch and rain took place at the Oval on day three of the fifth and final Test. After plundering India on a day and a half, England inning finally folded out for 486. Joe Root who scored an unbeaten 149 powered England to a 338-run lead against India.

Joe Root wasted no time as he crossed 100-run mark in the thrid over on day three at the Oval. The canny right hander has been one of the most consistent batsmen for England in this series.
His overnight partner, Chris Joran though could not last long as he edged one straight to MS Dhoni off Ishant Sharma’s bowling. But india were in further punishment as Stuart Broad launched into the attack smashing Indian bowling all around the park. This not only frustrated the visitors but also raced England’s lead to beyond 300.
India had a chance to end Root’s stay in the middle. But the overstepping dashed those hopes. Stuart Broad’s aggressive knock eventualy came to an end to a bouncer. But that did not affect Joe Root as he continued to punish India and mint runs.
England inning eventually came to an end when Ravichandra Ashwin got Anderson out LBW. Joe Root, who scored a hundred ran out of partners and remained unbeaten on 149 as England scored 486 taking a huge lead of 338 runs against India.
India’s below-par batting performance refused to go away as India lost Gambhir (run-out) and Murali Vijay (LBW) before the early lunch took place. Murali Vijay was set uo brilliantly by James Anderson before he got him plumb before wicket. Gambhir whose patience and technique were tested was run-out as he misjudged a single.
